Weekend Mime Workshops (WE)

NEXT WEEK-END MIME WORKSHOP:

DURING “LA BIENNALE DES ARTS DU MIME ET DU GESTE”:

Mime, Play and Improvisation

2nd and 3rd December 2017 (10hr) – 160 €

Improvisation is a fundamental exercise in an actor’s training, as important as the mastery of the body obtained by the study of our technique, Dramatic Corporeal Mime. The workshop, whose aim is to awaken the spirit of the actor, begins with different clear, pure themes for improvisation, which confront participants with different possibilities for physical play and performance. Faced with different challenges, the actor must draw on their own imagination, and thus discover themselves through different dramatic and physical qualities.

Weekend Mime Workshops (WE)

COMING SOON, NEW PROGRAMMING IN 2018 :

Les Enfants du Paradis, Mime and narrative, when the great masters played pantomime (WE)

25th and 26th February 2016 (10hr) - 160 €

The workshop provides an insight into the different aesthetics of the Art of Mime, departing from the studies made by Etienne Decroux in the 1930s, which developed the base of the Marche Sur Place, and the work on fixed points. We take a look at the myths of mime evident in the film ‘Les Enfants du Paradis,’ where several characters develop from a particular and defined gesture. This workshop seeks to give participants the opportunity to discover the physical richness and theatricality akin to this art form.

Spring Mime Workshop, 2016/17 season – Weekly (HB)

COMING SOON, NEW PROGRAMMING IN 2018 :

Corporeal Mime and the Body as Mask (HB)

3rd to 7th April 2017 Spring Workshop (25hr) - 380 €

Through this approach to their art, actors may show their art and not their character.

The mask which shrouds the face, and the removal from realism, allows us to understand the importance of the mastery obtained through the mastery of the mask. The mastery of the body in movement just as we master a mask, where the eyes of the head are added to the eyes of the bust, as well as the eyes of the hips.

And finally, a face which becomes the mask, which gives the actor all possible dramatic force.

Mime Workshop – Weekend (WE)

COMING SOON, NEW PROGRAMMING IN 2018 :

Walks, The feet as proletariat of the aesthetic (WE)

10th and 11th June 2017 (10hr) - 160 €

Give different forms to a walk by changing weight upon the ground.

Our feet, far from being dumbly led, determine the quality of our movement. Their way of gripping the ground can give to our walk a chosen elegance, or equally affect a disastrous clumsiness.

This workshop provides work on our weight distribution. How does our body in movement need communication with our feet to facilitate our displacement? In pushing back against the ground our spinal column finds its upright position. Our walk depends on these different ways of pushing the earth: with force, speed, lightness, etc.

It is through our walking, thanks to the intelligence of our feet, that the archetypes of the stage find life.

It is through the mastery of movement and immobility that the actor’s physical training finds most worth. The actor who, conscious of the artificiality of the stage, has chosen to take responsibility as author in the search of new creative forms, must acquire the fundamentals necessary for bestowing on the body the role of protagonist.

General information
Professional profile of participants: Corporeal Mime, finding itself as it does at the crossroads of different disciplines, appeals to an audience of dance as much as that of the theatre, of music, of puppetry, circus, clowning, animation and visual art.
Prerequisite experience: The workshops are open equally to professional performers and to the any person pushed by the desire to acquire a training in Corporeal Mime, as well as anyone who feels the need for a greater physical understanding and ability.
Pedagogical objective: This ambitious project, which claws us back to the sources of theatricality, studies the fundamentals of Corporeal Mime. Here, movement, through its articulation, takes forms which are simultaneously abstract, and imbued with semiotic and semantic significance. The workshop allows us to explore an analysis of movement unique to this art form, and to understand the principles of articulation required to define and amplify movement.
The workshop allows us to explore an analysis of movement unique to this art form, and to understand the principles of articulation required to define and amplify movement. A study of counterweights and muscular dramatics allows us to show the struggle, the effort of a body which finds itself in opposition, which resists.
Particular attention is paid to rhythm; rhythm of form, but also and most particularly rhythm of movement of the body in space. All these themes will be treated through the study of principles, of dynamic figures, of extracts of pieces unique to the repertoire of Etienne Decroux’s Corporeal Mime.
Pedagogical Programme

The pedagogical programme of the workshop proposes to provide an introduction to Etienne Decroux’ Corporeal Mime, his analysis of movement, and his philosophical theory, through the following fundamental principles:

  • Work on the fundamental principles of corporeal mime
  • Basic technique, physical articulation
  • Counterweights, muscular dramatics, dynamo-rhythms
  • Work on displacement of the body through space (character walks)
  • Stylised walks
  • Study of dynamic figures to develop sensitivity to form and rhythm
  • Physical segmentation and work on rhythm through studied characters.
  • Improvisation and semi-improvisation
